Reyna Wins!
Brooklyn 11211 —
It wasn't even close.
Congratulations to Diana Reyna, who won 60% of the vote to Martiza Davila's 35% - a 3,000+ vote margin. After a tight primary victory over Davila, and with many local Democrats crossing party lines (and the local clergy coming out) to support her opponent, Diana triumphs in an empowering victory.
And in a humbling victory, Mike Bloomberg won a third term with less than 51% of the vote.

Jeremiah's Vanishing New York —
Yesterday, many people in this city voted to keep Michael Bloomberg as our mayor. Yet, for all his arrogance, he won by a very narrow margin, shocking his aides, who fully expected a landslide. Nearly half the voters in the city have come to their senses. It's the other half I worry about--especially the 18-29 year olds, who mostly supported Bloomberg. Maybe the kids aren't alright. Maybe they're scared, still hoping a Daddy Warbucks will save them. Because, as the faux-affluent bubble of the past decade has burst, we're seeing the wreckage of people who have no idea how to manage their money with ...

... from his mental space (I need to purge Howard Wolfson from my mental space) — the spin of this being “a very difficult year,” which Wolfson also tried using last night, is especially specious. The mayor’s narrow victory wasn’t because the economy sucks, it was because he overturned the will of the voters without a referendum and poured $100 million into a campaign. Be upfront about this. Quit bullshitting. The election is over.
Speaking of the narrow victory, I also think the media is to blame for making this out to be a landslide from day ...
Do You Think Anthony Weiner Feels Bad About Not Running for Mayor?
L Mag —
Here at The L Magazine we welcome the opportunity to surrender all civic responsibility to the richest man in town for four more years.
After spending $90 of his own money, Bloomberg beat Bill Thompson by just 50,000 votes, in an election with historically low turnout. Essentially, many of the people who voted for him did so because they didn't think there was anything better out there, and many of the people who didn't vote at all didn't vote because they didn't think there was a point.
You'll recall that Queens and Brooklyn Congressman Anthony Weiner ...

Election Aftermath
Mr NYC —
It's really hard to know where to being in analyzing yesterday's election. There was some good news but mostly it was bad news. And trying to make sense of it all will be difficult. But I will try. First, the bad news: it was a bummer to see Mayor Bloomberg win a third term that, if ...
