She's Your Lover Now
Diner's Journal —
My review this week is of a newish French place on Lexington Avenue and 52nd Street called Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte . It’s the first American outpost of a Paris institution (some would say tourist trap) that serves nothing but salad and steak frites. This is its great charm. The restaurant fights mightily against the tyranny of choice that so infects the world of restaurants in New York City. As David Carr — a media monster and Diner’s Journal consigliere — said in the place one night, leaning back in his chair and just getting started on the subject: ...

Midweek Special: NYC Restaurant Review Roundup
Gothamist —
... This week in the Times, Sam Sifton reviews the newly-opened midtown outpost of French mini-chain Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecote, which serves just drinks, salad, fries, steak, and dessert. "Women in French maid outfits serve the stuff as if they were characters in an early Preston Sturges film," says Sifton. "And you know what? It’s terrific." Meanwhile, the Times's ...
Week in Reviews: One Star for the Steak, Salad, and Sauce at Le Relais de Venise
Eater NY —
... Sam Sifton decides that, despite its three menu item and costumed waitresses, French import Le Relais de Venise is terrific, and it merits one star. Sifty seems to like the concept of the place, the setting, the idea of drinking plonk with cheap meat, the image of "women in uniform standing over dark wood and marble" more than the food. But let's see what he says about the steak, and more importantly, the sauce that people line up for in London in Paris (and maybe, someday, though probably not, New York): ...
Sifton Falls for L’Entrecôte; Sutton Doubts Blue Hill
Grub Street New York —
... “has a slightly nostalgic air. In part that’s because of the costumes, and the room. But it is also the food, which recalls an era of silver plate and good manners, the simplicity of salad, steak and fries, heavy on the salt and butter, rich as a cardiologist,” writes Sam Sifton. [NYT] ...

Review Recap: Le Relais de Venise

... We did not believe that this restaurant would get one star, based on the “meh” reviews we’ve read elsewhere. But we are glad that when Sifton gives a star, the restaurant is actually good—a contrast from the Frank Bruni era. ...
